TCS to hire 40,000 fresh graduates from September 2010
For the first time in last two years, TCS now plans to hire fresh engineering graduates even through off-campuses. TCS has increased its hiring target for the fiscal from 10,000 to 40,000 because of the rebound in demand for IT services.
“Of the incremental 10,000, 65 per cent will be engineering freshers who will come through the off-campus hiring programme. We will start with ‘walk-in interview' drives around the September timeframe to meet the requirements for freshers in our projects,” said Mr Ajoy Mukherjee, Vice-President, Head, Global Human Resources.
TCS had hired 6,240 employees in 2008 and 5,430 in 2007. However, the practice was discontinued during the last two years as companies struggled with excess manpower and fewer outsourcing projects. For the 20,050 offers for the year, the company expects a joining ratio of 70-72 per cent. While it has already started the intake of these campus recruits, majority of them will come on board from the current quarter onwards.

BSNL Plans Of Hiring 10,000 Employees
The state-run telecommunication company Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) is planning to hire nearly 10,000 employees, reports said on Monday.
The telecom company is looking at hiring about 10,000 people for its marketing and sales division in the next two years, which is contrary to the suggestion made by Pitroda panel.
The Pitroda panel recommended BSNL to reduce its excess staff base by 1,00,000 to save cost on wages. The Panel said, "retire or transfer 100,000 employees by schemes like VRS". Besides, BSNL employees opposed the recommendation and threatened to go on strike if implemented.
The panel headed by Sam Pitroda, also suggested 30 per cent disinvestment in the telecom company.
BSNL, which failed to utilise the 2G market, is now intending on acquiring maximum market in providing 3G services.
